UNFPA is responding to humanitarian needs in the country through interventions in reproductive health, HIV, and GBV prevention and response within the framework of the National Policy and Strategy on Disaster Risk Prevention and Management.
Sexual and reproductive health needs are often overlooked in humanitarian emergencies. Women and girls also become more vulnerable to sexual and gender-based violence, exploitation, and HIV infection. UNFPA supports the supply of dignity kits and reproductive health kits providing core life-saving services.
The Fund also supports the deployment of health professionals such as midwives to provide critical maternal health services. UNFPA works closely with the government and other partners to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights and responses to gender-based violence are integrated into humanitarian responses. UNFPA’s comparative advantage lies in an integrated approach that bridges protection, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in humanitarian response.
