Good Practices and Lessons Learned from the Prevention and Management of Gender-based Violence in Ethiopia Programme
As part of the overall effort to improve the response and prevention mechanism, UNFPA has been supporting implementation of a programme entitled Prevention and Management of Gender Based Violence with the objective of strengthening community response to promote and protect the rights of women and girls in relation to harmful traditional practices and gender-based violence; strengthening institutional response to address harmful traditional practices and gender-based violence; and provide information and services to survivors of gender-based violence, including within a humanitarian context. This was aligned with the UNDAF Outcome that “by 2015, women, youth and children are increasingly protected and rehabilitated from abuse, violence, exploitation and discrimination”. The programme funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy was implemented together with implementing partners – 11 NGOs and 1Governmental Organization operating in six Regions of the country (Amhara, Oromiya, SNNPR, Tigray, Benishangul-Gumuz and Addis Ababa).
The time frame for the implementation of the programme – October 2012-December 2015 was used as the basis for the documentation of good practices and lessons learnt.
