The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists handed-over the Gender-based violence model clinics to the Gondar University, Ayder Referral Hospital and Jimma University Specialized Hospital. The model clinics which were supported by UNFPA were handed-over between December 29 and 31 2015.

The model clinics are a one-stop center providing service to survivors free of charge. The medical services provided at the clinics are combined with the services being provided by the Public Prosecutor and Police Units set up in the same compound. The clinics are providing psycho-social and medical services as well as investigating and filing cases in court to bring perpetrators to justice. Survivors needing further psycho-social support will be referred to a nearby safe house. Due to the increase in awareness work undertaken in recent years since the establishment of the clinics, more and more cases are being reported seeking redress.

UNFPA has been supporting the model clinics for survivors of sexual violence since 2010. The fund to support the model clinics was secured from the Prevention and Management of Gender Based Violence Programme is financed by the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
