In connection with the 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based violence, UNFPA organized a half-day carnival for high school students in Addis Ababa. Around 800 Students drawn from 20 high schools in the city participated in the carnival.

Different informative and entertaining activities, including debate among students on sexual harassment of girls in schools, music and dance performances, comedy, and cultural show were presented.

Making a remark at the event, UNFPA Honorary National Goodwill Ambassador, Athlete Meseret Defar, noted that the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence mark a time where different sections of society make a pledge to combat gender-based violence. "You should play your part in fighting gender-based violence and should not keep quite when you see such acts being committed," she urged the students.

A questions and answers session was also held in which the students participated and received prizes. A true story of a survivor of sexual harassment at a high school was also read to the gathering.

The carnival was organized by UNFPA in collaboration with the Network of Ethiopian Women's Association, Tsotawi Tikat Tekelakay Mahiber (Organization for the Prevention of Gender-based Violence), and Young Women's Christian Association (YMCA).
