The training of trainers on Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for sexual and reproductive health in emergencies which UNFPA organized together with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute and the Ministry of Health kicked off today.
Participants drawn from government, UN agencies, and CSOs will be taking part in this 6 day training. The training is the first of its kind in Ethiopia and has engaged trainers from the UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office.
Speaking at the opening of the training, Sarah Masale, Deputy Representative of UNFPA said “UNFPA is on the ground before, during and after crises, working closely with governments, NGOs, UN agencies and other partners to ensure that sexual reproductive health and rights and responses to gender-based violence are integrated into emergency responses. She added that UNFPA provides training for health care workers on safe delivery and basic and comprehensive emergency obstetric care. We also provide equipment, medicine and supplies.
The training is organized as part of efforts to increase access to MISP for Sexual and Reproductive Health in emergencies in light of the increasing incidence of humanitarian situations in Ethiopia which have heightened the vulnerability of women and girls, in particular.
This participants are expected to cascade the training.
