The review meetings that were held on the Joint UNPFA-UNICEF Program on Rights-based Approach to Adolescent and Youth Development concluded that the program is on the right track in terms of meeting its objective. The meetings were held in Dessie and Adama 16-18 March and 23-25 March respectively. More than 150 representatives drawn from implementing partners, Regional and District representatives of the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office, and different sector bureaus in the Regions of implementation of the Joint Program participated in the review meetings.
During the review meetings, the participants presented their progresses, discussed their challenges and proposed solutions with respect the implementation of the Joint Program. In addition, issues of planning, implementing and reporting good practices of the program were reviewed in light of Result Based Management. Discussions were held on documenting and scaling up good practices of the Joint Program. The issue of sustainability of the Joint Program was also discussed and participants agreed to work towards ensuring the smooth exit of the program from the intervention areas after its phase out.
The UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme on the Right-Based Approach to Adolescent and Youth Development is funded by the Royal Norwegian Government, which is in its second phase of implementation spanning 2014 to 2017.
The UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme is supporting interventions on adolescents and young people in 30 selected districts, 16 higher education institutions and 100 secondary high schools in Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples, Afar & Tigray Regions, as well as Addis Ababa City Administration. The interventions aim at enhancing adolescent and young people’s capacity, making it possible for them to claim their rights and access an integrated package of youth-friendly services.
